COVID-19 RESOURCES

This document's mission is to provide resources to the CCI Community and other Asian Americans. The project aims to aid Chinese and Asian adoptees and give them the support they might need if they ever are threatened or hurt. It also offers sources for community members to learn more about the racism that Asian Americans are facing due to the novel coronavirus.

With this as my goal, I have dedicated one of my CCI Summer 2020 Intern Projects to compiling resources to help Chinese and Asian adoptees combat the increase in xenophobia, resulting from the novel coronavirus. This document can be used for hate-crimes and standing up as a bystander more generally, too. It is not just limited to this pandemic. The resources include databases, news articles, op-eds, blog posts, artwork, and other multimedia. All of which touch on the different aspects and methods of coping with racism against Asian Americans.

Some I would like to highlight include:

  • 2,120 hate incidents against Asian Americans reported during coronavirus pandemic - CBS News

  • Coronavirus/COVID-19 Resources to Stand Against Racism - Asian Americans Advancing Justice

  • Fighting Xenophobia and Anti-Asian Racism - Northwestern University

  • Coronavirus Anti-AAIP Racism Incident Report - Asian Pacific Policy & Planning Council

  • AAPA COVID-19 Related Resources for Mental Health - Asian American Psychological Association

HOW TO USE THE DOCUMENT

The resources are listed in the Google Sheet, which operates much like an excel spreadsheet, and can be found in the link on this page. I’ve separated the Google Sheet into eight topics, presented in the following order in eight tabs The tabs to toggle the topic can be found at the bottom of the page. These eight sheets are titled:

  • Fighting Racism

  • Bystander Intervention

  • Report a Hate Crime

  • Self-Care,’ ‘AA (Asian Americans) Speak Out

  • History of COVID-19 and Racism

  • AA Multi-Media & Artistic Expression

  • Adoptee’s and COVID-19

In the sections for Fighting Racism and ‘History of COVID-19 and Racism,’ there are subsections in the tabs themselves with headers to differentiate. Moreover, for the sheet ‘Report a Hate Crime,’ the country that the resource pertains to is listed.

Within the tabs, for the sections ‘AA Speak Out,’ ‘History of COVID-19 and Racism’, and ‘AA Multi-Media & Artistic Expression,’ the contents are organized by publication date. For all other sections, the materials are arranged alphabetically by organization.

I want to warn the community that some of the articles include trigger warnings related to violence and hate speech. If an article or video includes something that may be harmful, the indication is in the Google Sheet. Please proceed with caution.

Hey guys! My name is Ella Farruggia, and I was adopted from Nanning city in the Guangxi province when I was ten months old. I am currently a rising senior at Drew University, studying Economics and minoring in History and Chinese. During the school year, I am a tour guide for my school, a tutor for the Economics department, and a TA for one of Drew’s First-Year Seminars.

My internship this summer is my first time being a part of CCI, but when I was younger, my family was involved with FCC. Moreover, in the summer of 2016, I participated in the China Give Back Trip with Adopteen, where a group of other Chinese adoptees and I volunteered in an orphanage in Hefei in the Anhui province. Since then, I have learned more about Chinese history and pop culture. But recently, I have become more interested in the adoptee community and the discussions to be had.
