CCI’s Birth Parent Searching and Reunion group is a separate group created by adoptees, Sarah Griffin and Sophia Capri, for adoptees interested in searching for birth parents or currently in reunion. Whether an adoptee is just beginning the process of searching, are unsure of how to start searching, or is ready to begin on the ground searching, this group was created to share information and resources to aid in any stage. This group encourages the respectful sharing of stories, discussions, questions, and advice about birth parent searching. It also serves as a confidential place to find support and advice for the often more challenging aspects of searching or reunion such as emotions and expectations. Sarah and Sophia hope this group will be a positive, encouraging resource for any Chinese adoptee desiring to search for birth family to utilize. Additionally, Sarah and Sophia have several personal reasons as to why they created this group.

PERSONAL STATEMENTS FROM CREATORS
Sophia: My personal view point on searching has changed a lot in the past 5 years. In high school I went from definitely wanting to search, purchasing all the DNA kits and hoping to get a match. However, recently I've taken a step back from wanting to find my birth parents, really focusing on myself and whether I'm emotionally capable of handling any outcome of the process. Right now I don't know if I necessarily need to find them, but a small part of me still wants to. From this group, I hope to gain insight and knowledge about other adoptees because my views could always change. Looking forward to getting to know many of you!
Sarah: Hello, friends. I’m Sarah Griffin. I believe that every adoptee goes through different phases during their lives in regards to our biological history. In my personal story, I was not ready to start searching until recently. During undergrad, I went through a phase where I was not emotionally ready to know my full story. Now, as a third year med student, I have come to the realization that I am finally ready to begin this emotional process. It has taken me more than four years to understand that this process is a journey. A journey that is different for every person with different steps and differing decisions. And that’s okay. I wanted to start this group to help support other adoptees going through this emotional and challenging journey. I love you guys!
