Mission
AKF is a politically and religiously independent association for adoptees from Korea. AKF strives to meet the interest of Korea and Korean culture, while supporting international cooperation between Koreans.
-
Create a meeting place and enable the experience and insights about the unique fact of being adopted from Korea.
-
The AKF executive board consists of 9 members (president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, four members and a deputy member. In addition to this, an auditor and a separate selection committee (who propose new board members) are elected during the annual meeting.
-
Overall we focus on two different types of activities. One of them is seminars, workshops and lectures on adoption related issues and the other is social activities aiming at strengthening the community of adopted Koreans in Sweden. Our social activities often, but not always, center around Korean culture.
-
The members of the board all have different interests and skills, so in order to make sure that everybody gets to reach and make use of their full potential we make sure that the mandate to make the important decisions are delegated to those who are most capable of making them. This means that every activity is being allotted a budget and that 1-3 board members are being assigned the task of planning, carrying out and evaluating it. If extensive changes to the budget or aim of the activity is needed, the president and/or the executive board must be consulted, otherwise the members in charge of the activity have the decision mandate. We find that this is a good way to make sure that all board members feel entrusted and important as well as a means of making sure that the workload for the president and treasurer is being kept at a healthy and sustainable level.
