Dear Méimei, Dear Didi

Dear Little Sister, Dear Little Brother

Our project title translates to Dear Little Sister, Dear Little Brother. It is an opportunity for Chinese adoptees (15+) to share creative, hopeful, wise, and inspirational messages to their younger selves. We encourage parents of young adoptees to share this site or pieces that are appropriate for age and circumstance as a way for your children to feel more connected to the Chinese adoption community.

What would you tell your younger self (at any or several ages)?
What do you want to tell to adoptees who are struggling?
How do you reflect on your adoption journey?
What obstacles have you overcome, and how can others do the same?

Topics may include:

  • Mental health & issues
  • Overcoming adversity
  • Gender and sexual identity (LGBTQA+)
  • Memorable experiences
  • Race & diversity
  • Family dynamics
  • Bullying
  • Accomplishments
  • Stereotypes
  • Body image & growing up

We welcome pieces that address challenging topics. Warnings will be included on submissions that may trigger others or that may be inappropriate for young adoptees. You can sign your submission however you would like, and indicate the age at which you are addressing yourself. Multiple submissions are encouraged (i.e. address one letter to your 10-year-old self, and another to your 16 year-old-self). Be creative, be honest, be you. This project is for you to reflect on your journey and inspire others!
